May Kid and Coach of the Month

This is some text inside of a div block.

Our Coach of the Month is Kylie Henkels, a 4th year undergraduate student at the University of Iowa studying public health with a minor in physical activity and nutrition science. She has been coaching for over a year with Healthy LifeStars and became involved to make a positive change in kids’ lives. "l love seeing the kids smiles as they walk into the gym for Healthy LifeStars each week. It makes me happy seeing how excited they are to learn about healthy habits, but also engage in physical activity with us coaches each week.”

Healthy LifeStars has prepared her for graduation this May by providing Kylie with experience related to her field outside the classroom. “While coaching a family at Iowa City Compassion, I experienced that kids applied what they were learning. For example, Muhammad learned how to calculate the amount of physical activity each week for himself and his siblings. He would return with a daily log that equaled 60 minutes a day”. “Look I did it” he would say smiling.

The LifeStar Student of the Month is Muhammed, who is 9 years old and is the oldest in his family of 4 siblings. He has been involved with Healthy LifeStars for just over a year and he is enthusiastic about learning how to stay healthy.

He enjoys working on the HLS worksheets and earning his stars. He is especially proud of himself for being able to apply what he’s learning in Healthy LifeStars to help his family learn healthy habits at home. Muhammad tracks his family’s physical activity each day to make sure they all do their best!
